thomas worthington whittredge, an american artist of the hudson river school, was born on may 22, 1820, in a log cabin near springfield, ohio. he began his artistic journey as a young man in cincinnati, painting landscapes and portraits before traveling to europe in 1849 to further his training. whittredge studied at the düsseldorf academy, a major art school of the period, under the tutelage of emanuel leutze.artistic style and influences
