      The Life of Abraham Ángel

Abraham Ángel was a Mexican artist born in El Oro, State of Mexico. He was the youngest of five children, born to Lewis Edward Card Burke, a Welsh miner and adventurer, and Francisca Valdez. At age 16, after deciding to pursue art studies at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, he was expelled from his home by his brother, Adolfo. During this time, he studied drawing under Manuel Rodríguez Lozano, using methods based on Adolfo Best Maugard. Following a period of personal difficulty and the loss of his mentor's patronage, he died on 27 October 1924.
