Born in Brussels, Belgium, Amedée Degreef was the son of the painter Jean-Baptiste Degreef and Thérèse Catherine Plisnier. His artistic journey began under the guidance of his father before he pursued formal studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. In 1900, he became a member of the Brussels artists' association known as Le Sillon, a group that advocated for a return to traditional painting and naturalism through the direct representation of nature.

His depictions of the Soignes Forest, the Escaut, and the North Sea were noted for a lyrical and intimate quality, characterized by a sense of light and a vigorous, sincere technique.
