The Life and Artistic Journey of Erich Glette

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, Erich Glette was a painter who spent much of his life navigating the cultural landscapes of Germany and Brazil. After traveling to Rio de Janeiro following his secondary education, he briefly studied at the Technical University of Munich before deciding to pursue painting. Initially an autodidact, Glette later became a student of the artist Martin Lauterburg. His career saw significant milestones, including participation in the New Secession in Munich and exhibitions of his watercolors from Brazil. His works were acquired by the Bavarian State Painting Collections and the Munich City Gallery during the late 1920s.

During the period of "Degenerate Art," his painting Vorstadtlandschaft was confiscated from the Bavarian State Painting Collections. Following the destruction of his Munich apartment in 1943, he lived in various locations, including Schwabing and Steinebach am Wörthsee. He eventually held a professorship at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1951 to 1964 and was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. He passed away in Prien am Chiemsee.
