      Architectural Legacy of Derk Smit

Derk Smit was a Dutch architect born in Groningen. To distinguish himself from his father, who worked as a carpenter, he was commonly referred to by his colleagues as D. Smit Jr. His professional contributions include the design of several notable structures, such as country houses located in Haren and Winsum.

One of his significant architectural achievements is a commercial building located on Steentilstraat in Groningen. Commissioned by the furniture manufacturer Geubels in 1936, this structure was designed to house offices and showrooms. Built in a streamlined variation of the Amsterdam School style, the building has been designated as a national monument.
