Ernest Marché was a French landscape painter and museum curator. Born in Nemours, France, he pursued his artistic training at the École des arts décoratifs before entering the Académie Julian. There, he studied under Jules Lefebvre, Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant, and Tony Robert-Fleury. His early success was marked by his 1891 presentations at the Salon des artistes français, where he focused on the landscapes of the banks of the Loing.

Travels and Curatorial Legacy

Marché's work was deeply influenced by his travels, particularly his 1907 journey to Algeria following a travel grant from the Exposition coloniale de Marseille. He also traveled to Brazil in 1908 to study the landscape for the Brussels exposition.
