The Life and Art of Henri Royer
Born in Nancy, France, Henri Royer was the son of Jules Royer, who founded a significant lithographic printing establishment. His early works, such as Fight between two young typos and Young plasterer, were showcased at the Salon de Nancy. Following his studies in Nancy, he attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later the Académie Julian under the guidance of Jules Joseph Lefebvre and François Flameng.
Royer was a painter of genre, portraitist, and landscape artist. In 1896, he moved to Brittany, where he spent much of his life, particularly near Audierne. As a devout Catholic, he also produced religious subjects, including solitary figures in prayer.
