      Jeunesse et Formation

      Donato Creti (né le 24 février 1671 à Crémona, en Italie – décédé le 31 janvier 1749) était un peintre italien de l’époque baroque, principalement actif à Bologne. Son père, Gioseffo Creti, était également peintre, bien que moins renommé, spécialisé dans la peinture architecturale. La famille s'est installée à Bologne au début de la vie de Donato. Il a commencé sa formation artistique avec Giorgio Rasparini avant de devenir élève de Lorenzo Pasinelli, une figure importante liée à l’école picturale bolognaise descendue de Guido Reni.

      Développement Artistique et Influences

      Creti s'est rapidement distingué comme un étudiant talentueux, lui valant le surnom de ‘ragazzino’ pour sa précoce aptitude. Il a bénéficié du mécénat de Conte Alessandro Fava, qui lui a offert des opportunités d'étude et de création d'œuvres. Ses influences précoces comprenaient les fresques des frères Carracci et une possible visite d'étude à Venise. L’objectif était de faire aboutir l’établissement d’un observatoire astronomique à Bologne – un objectif qui a finalement été réalisé avec le soutien papal. Jupiter de cette série est particulièrement notable pour sa représentation précise de la Grande Tache Rouge et au moins deux lunes.
