      Jeunesse et Éducation

      • Naissance : 28 avril 1868, à Lille, France.
      • La jeunesse d'Émile Henri Bernard fut marquée par la maladie de sa sœur, ce qui l’amena à être élevé principalement par sa grand-mère, qui exploitait une blanchisserie à Lille. Cet environnement protecteur et bienveillant nourrit ses premières inclinations artistiques.
      • En 1878, sa famille s'installa à Paris, où Bernard fréquenta le Collège Sainte-Barbe.
      • Il entama ses études d'art formelles à l’École des Arts Décoratifs avant de rejoindre l’Atelier Cormon en 1884. C'est dans ce cadre qu'il expérimenta avec l'Impressionnisme et le Pointillisme.
      • Ses tendances trop expressives lui valurent une suspension de l’École des Beaux-Arts, une épreuve qui le poussa vers un voyage formateur à travers la Bretagne, parcourue à pied.
