      Francis Danby ARA était un peintre irlandais de l'ère romantique. Ses paysages imaginatifs et dramatiques étaient comparables à ceux de John Martin. Il est une figure significative de l’histoire de l’art britannique, reliant la peinture traditionnelle du paysage à l’accent croissant du mouvement romantique sur l’émotion, l’imagination et la grandeur.

      Jeunesse et Développement Artistique

      Né dans le County Wexford, en Irlande, James Francis Danby était l'un des jumeaux ; son père exploitait une petite ferme. Après la mort de son père en 1807, la famille déménagea à Dublin. Il commença à étudier le dessin à l’école de la Royal Dublin Society, recevant ses premières instructions de James Arthur O’Connor et nouant des relations avec George Petrie.
