Biographie de l'artiste
Premières années et formation
Johan Barthold Jongkind, peintre et graveur néerlandais, est né le 3 juin 1819 à Lattrop, dans la province d'Overijssel aux Pays-Bas. Il a reçu sa formation artistique à l’Académie des beaux-arts de La Haye. En 1846, il s'est installé à Montparnasse, en France, où il a étudié sous la direction d'Eugène Isabey et de François-Édouard Picot.Carrière artistique
Le travail de Jongkind a été accepté au Salon de Paris en 1848, ce qui lui a valu les éloges des critiques Charles Baudelaire et Émile Zola. Cependant, il luttait contre la dépression et l'alcoolisme, ce qui a entravé son succès. En 1855, Jongkind est retourné à Rotterdam aux Pays-Bas avant de s’installer à nouveau à Paris en 1861.Contribution à l'impressionnisme
