      Jeunesse et Formation

      • Né le : 28 octobre 1858 à Détroit, Michigan.
      • Le parcours artistique de Rolshoven a commencé avec une formation formelle à l'École d'Art Cooper Union à New York City.
      • Il a poursuivi ses études à l'étranger, d'abord à l'Académie de Düsseldorf puis à Munich, afin d'acquérir une base académique rigoureuse.
      • Un moment décisif est venu lorsque il a étudié sous Frank Duveneck à Venise et Florence, devenant l'un des "Garçons du Duveneck" estimés. Cette expérience a profondément façonné son style artistique et son approche.

      Développement Artistique et Influences

      • Le gouvernement italien a finalement reconnu l’importance historique du Castello del Diavolo, le désignant monument national, témoignant de la dévotion de Rolshoven à sa préservation.

      Retour aux États-Unis et Période du Sud-Ouest

      • L'éclatement de la Première Guerre mondiale a motivé le retour de Rolshoven aux États-Unis en 1915. Il s’est marié à Harriette Haynes Blazo à Los Angeles.
      • Santa Fe et la Société Taos : Au plus tard en 1916, il avait installé un atelier à Santa Fe, au Nouveau-Mexique, dans le Governor's Palace.
      • Il est devenu un membre fondateur de la prestigieuse Société des artistes de Taos, contribuant à l’essor du mouvement artistique du Sud-Ouest américain.
      • Ses paysages du Sud-Ouest et ses représentations de la vie amérindienne reflètent son adaptation à un nouvel environnement tout en maintenant son style artistique distinctif.

      Vie tardive et Héritage

      • De 1920 jusqu'à sa mort, Rolshoven a partagé son temps entre Florence, Détroit et Santa Fe, reflétant ses liens durables avec ces lieux.
      • Décès en mer : Il est décédé le 8 décembre 1930 alors qu’il voyageait à bord d'un navire à travers l'océan Atlantique.
      • Sa veuve, Harriette Haynes Blazo Rolshoven, a généreusement fait don d'une somme importante et de vingt-deux de ses œuvres à l'Université du Nouveau-Mexique en 1957, assurant ainsi la préservation et l’appréciation de son héritage pour les générations futures.
