Mikhail Vasilyevich Nesterov, un peintre russe renommé, est né le 31 mai 1862 à Ufa, en Russie. Sa famille, fortement patriarcale et de milieu commercial, encouragea ses aspirations artistiques. En 1874, il s'inscrit à l'école réelle Voscresensky à Moscou, où l'intérêt de son père pour l'histoire et la littérature influença le désir de Mikhail de devenir artiste.Carrière artistique
En 1877, Nesterov rejoignit l'école moscovite de peinture, sculpture et architecture, étudiant auprès de Pavel Sorokine, Illarion Pryanishnikov et Vassili Perov. Il commença à participer aux expositions scolaires en 1879. Après un bref passage à l'Académie impériale des beaux-arts, Nesterov retourna à Moscou, prenant des cours auprès d'Alexei Savrasov.Œuvres notables et associations
"Le Hermite" (1889), son premier grand succès, fut acheté par Pavel Tretyakov, permettant à Nesterov de voyager abondamment.
