His formal training began at the prestigious John McCrady School of Fine and Applied Arts, where he studied under the tutelage of John McCrady. This foundational period in the French Quarter did more than just teach him the mechanics of watercolor; it instilled in him a deep appreciation for capturing the soul of a subject, a skill that would soon be tested in the most extreme circumstances imaginable.
In 1967, as the shadows of the Vietnam War lengthened across the globe, Casselli made a decision that would irrevocably alter the trajectory of his life and art.
