Born in St Ives, United Kingdom, Bryan Pearce was a British painter who became recognized as one of the UK’s leading naïve artists. His artistic journey was deeply influenced by his mother, Mary Warmington, a painter, and later by fellow St Ives artists such as Peter Lanyon. Pearce’s perception of the world was shaped by congenital phenylketonuria (PKU), which required special schooling and contributed to an unparalleled sensitivity to observation. His work often focused on the landscapes of Cornwall, particularly St Ives Harbour and "The Queen Mary," capturing the essence of daily life in the Penwith area.
His technique is characterized by a strikingly simple approach, utilizing flat canvases dominated by bold outlines surrounding areas of intense color. This method creates a visual impact reminiscent of stained glass windows. Pearce’s style was described by Lanyon as having an "awareness more direct" than pure visual representation, emphasizing the ability to convey experience through expressive contours and luminous color palettes.

Pearce’s professional career saw him join the Penwith Society of Arts in 1957 and the Newlyn Society of Artists.
