Frans Van Holder entered the world in 1881, beginning his creative life not in a studio of high ideals, but within the practical confines of his father’s workshop. As a painter-decorator, his early years were defined by the tactile reality of craft, learning to manipulate color and surface for the sake of ornamentation.
