After receiving a four-year education in decorative painting at the Quellinus art school in Amsterdam, he earned his diploma in 1921. His diverse body of work included the design of banners, candlesticks, altarpieces, and a way of the cross. He often marked his creations with the monogram WA.
His professional journey took him through several Dutch cities, including Schiedam, Amsterdam, The Hague, and Ermelo. In Schiedam, he contributed significant works to the Heilig Hartkerk, such as an apocalypse wall painting and two depictions of the life of Saint Liduina. His talent for large-scale works was further demonstrated by a massive Madonna and Child wall painting on a chapel facade in Amersfoort.
