      Jakub Schikaneder è stato un pittore e professore d'arte ceco la cui opera funge da finestra inquietante sulle profondità atmosferiche della fine del XIX secolo.       Un Arazzo di Luce e Ombra

      La tecnica di Schikaneder fu un esercizio magistrale nella creazione di atmosfere attraverso una sottile manipolazione di luce e consistenza. Attingendo agli approcci neo-impressionisti e all'influenza della Scuola di Monaco, egli utilizzò pennellate piccole e meticolose per infondere le sue tele con effetti di luccichio, nebbia e una sfocatura onirica. La sua opera si concentrava spesso sull'interazione delle ombre, sia negli angoli intimi dei vicoli di Praga che lungo le ampie rive della Moldava. Che stesse ritraendo la luce del primo crepuscolo o il pesante manto dell'inverno, Schikaneder cercava di raggiungere ciò che Paul Signac descrisse come un'armonia unificante e morale.

      I suoi soggetti si volgevano frequentemente verso il toccante e l'invisibile, trovando la bellezza nelle ombre della società. I suoi dipinti presentavano spesso:
