The Sculptor's Transition Born in Paris, France, Albert Fourié began his creative life working with the heavy, tactile medium of clay. His early training at the École des beaux-arts de Paris focused on the physical form, studying under Jean Gautherin. In 1877, he made his debut in the art world through a terracotta bust of a woman. This period of his life was defined by the struggle to capture life in three dimensions, a discipline that required a deep understanding of anatomy and light.
