Early Life and Artistic Education
Born in Davenport, United States, Charles Logasa was the son of Sephardic Jewish parents and Ukrainian immigrants. After moving to Omaha, Nebraska, as a young child, he became a pupil of J. Laurie Wallace, who had studied under Thomas Eakins. His early professional life involved drafting and engineering; he worked as a draftsman for the City of Omaha and later served as a topographic draftsman for the United States Geological Survey in Washington, D.C. Around 1905, he began studying drafting, and by the age of 22, he had turned his attention to oil painting.
Logasa continued his formal art education as a part-time student at the Corcoran College of Art and Design under Messer and Brooke. In 1913, he took a leave of absence from his duties in Washington, D.C., to travel to Paris, where he studied at the Académie Julian under Paul Laurens. During his time in Washington, D.C., he exhibited works from the Armory Show in 1916, an event that introduced new abstraction to the city and sparked significant controversy.
Professional Career and Exhibitions
