The Life and Artistic Career of Eugène Baudin
Born in Lyon, France, Eugène Baudin was a painter and textile artist who studied at the École des beaux-arts de Lyon alongside Claude Bonnefond, Marc Laurent Bruyas, and Jean-Marie Reignier. His professional journey began as a simple draughtsman for the Lyon manufacturer Agnès, Bresson et Cie. His talent led him to become the firm's first draughtsman, eventually allowing him to open his own drawing studio in 1865, which he maintained until 1896. Beyond his work in textiles, Baudin was a founding member of the Salon d'automne de Lyon. He was also a father to two painters, Eugène Valentin Baudin and Alexandre Louis Baudin, both of whom were former students at the École des beaux-arts de Lyon.
