      Early Life, Family and Training

Ever Púček enters the world on December 21, 1931, in Vrútky, Czechoslovakia. He is the son of a midwife. His early years unfold in Sučany, where he attends a local folk school. The landscape of his childhood is shaped by the weight of the war years and the subsequent Slovak National Uprising, events that anchor his early existence in a period of profound historical transition.

The trajectory of his life shifts toward formal discipline in 1951. He moves to Karlovy Vary to attend the Secondary School of Art, remaining there until 1957. This period marks the beginning of his technical foundation. From there, his path leads to Prague, where he enters the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. Under the guidance of professors Tichý and Eckert, he refines the skills that define him as an academic painter, illustrator, and graphic artist.

      Artistic Style and Techniques

The core of Púček’s practice lies in the tension between scale and intimacy. He moves fluidly between small-scale, private compositions and large-scale monumental works. His visual language draws heavily from the traditions of Slovak modernism, though his path remains distinct. While he shared exhibition spaces with the Galandovci group and various surrealists, he never formally identified with these movements, maintaining a singular creative direction.

Technique shifts mark the evolution of his canvas. In his early years, he utilized the nitrolak technique to achieve specific effects, eventually transitioning to acrylics as his practice matured. His imagery often functions as a bridge to the past, pulling from the textures of childhood memories, folk tales, and old stories. This narrative impulse extends into his graphic work, where he applied his sensibilities to the medium of film posters, creating striking visual identities for both Slovak and international productions.

      Exhibitions and International Recognition

The reach of his work extends far beyond the borders of Slovakia. Solo presentations of his art find audiences in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Switzerland, and France. These individual exhibitions place his vision within a broader European context, moving from local galleries to international stages. His presence in the art world is further cemented by collective exhibitions that carry his name to Canada, Brazil, and Germany.

Beyond the canvas, his graphic work commands attention. His film posters, a significant part of his professional output, earn him specific accolades. He receives awards for this work in Moscow, Karlovy Vary, and Lugano. This recognition highlights a technical proficiency that translates across different media, from intimate paintings to large-scale graphic designs.

In 2011, the Sučany Municipal Office grants him honorary citizenship. This distinction recognizes his significant contributions to the development of culture. His career remains a bridge between the local and the global, spanning from the small towns of his youth to the major cultural centers of Europe and beyond.

      Later Years and Death

From 1964 onwards, the rhythm of his life settled into a dual existence. He lived and worked in Bratislava, maintaining a presence in the urban center, yet he spent part of each year in Podhradie, near Sučany. This connection to the landscape remained a constant throughout his later decades.

The end came on September 19, 2024. He was 92 years old. A funeral service for the artist took place on September 26 at the House of Mourning in Sučany.
