The Life and Career of William Fisk
Born in Thorpe-le-Soken, United Kingdom, William Fisk was the son of a yeoman farmer. After attending school in Colchester, he spent ten years working in a mercantile house in London. Following his marriage around 1826 and the birth of his eldest son, he turned his focus toward art as a profession. He resided in Howland Street, London, between 1835 and 1848, before eventually retiring to property in Danbury, Essex, where he died.
Fisk was an English painter specializing in portraiture and history painting. His early work included portraits such as Mr. G. Fisk, a Child and Favourite Dog, and William Redmore Bigg, R. A., which he exhibited at the Royal Academy. He also presented The Widow and Puck to the British Institution.
