Jan van Aken was a Dutch painter, restorer, and designer who established a significant family workshop in 's-Hertogenbosch. Born in 1380, he was the son of the painter Thomas van Aken. His early life involved residence in Nijmegen, where he lived independently on the Broerstraat by 1413. By 1427, he had settled in 's-Hertogenbosch, where he opened an atelier on the Vughterstraat.
