A Life of Maritime Artistry
Born in Nantes, France, René Pinard was a painter and engraver who dedicated much of his career to the sea. His life was deeply intertwined with maritime themes; during the First World War, he served on a minesweeper, the Kerdonis, based in Lorient. Later, he was appointed as a Navy painter, a position he held for many years, which allowed him to travel aboard the cruiser-school Jeanne-d'Arc to Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia.
