The Light of the Stained Glass
The studio is a space defined by the interplay of light and glass. In Belgium, the craft of the stained-glass artist takes on a specific, technical rigor. Van de Weghe works within this medium, manipulating light to define form and space. The practice is one of precision, where the transparency of the material dictates the final impact of the work.
The focus remains on the physical properties of the glass itself. Unlike painters who apply pigment to a surface, this artist works with the very substance that allows light to pass through. It is a discipline of color and structure, where the medium is the message.
Technical Focus and Collections
The work of Van de Weghe is preserved in significant institutions, marking a presence in the history of Belgian glass art. The technical execution involves a deep understanding of how light interacts with colored panes to create depth without the need for traditional brushwork.

A Legacy in Glass

A specific work, titled Sans titre, dates back to 1955. This piece represents a moment in the artist's development, captured within the permanent archives of the museum.
The legacy of the artist is tied to the permanence of the medium. Glass does not fade like oil or watercolor; it remains as a fixed point of light. Through this work, the artist's contribution to the Belgian tradition of glass painting is maintained.
