His return to Karlsruhe marked a period of professional ascent. After studying under Ferdinand Keller, Schurth transitioned from a student to a central figure within the academic hierarchy. His career was defined by a steady climb through the ranks of the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe, moving from an assistant to a professor, and eventually serving as the director of the institute. This institutional influence ensured that his technical standards helped shape the next generation of German painters.
