Jacques Delorge, also known as le chevalier de Lorge, was a French court painter born in Aix-en-Provence. His professional journey saw him become a member of both the Academy of Marseille and the Academy of Paris. A significant moment in his career occurred in 1771 when he was presented to the Dauphin by the Duke of Vauguyon. Following this encounter, he served as the painter to the Dauphin and the Dauphine, remaining in the service of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. His work was noted for its brilliant coloring and beautiful composition.

In the later stages of his life, Delorge's activities shifted toward the northern regions of France. During his time there, he was tasked with documenting the paintings, sculptures, and engravings from the furniture of the Abbey of Saint-Winoc.
Delorge eventually settled in Dunkirk, where he continued to teach his craft. His historical legacy includes his opposition to the destruction of portraits of Louis XIV, painted by Charles Le Brun and Pierre Mignard, in Dunkirk on 20 Brumaire, Year II.
