This focus on the ruling classes continued decades later. By 1863, he had produced a portrait of Louis William, Duke in Bavaria. These commissions reflect a career deeply embedded in the social hierarchies of the German states.
The scope of his portraiture extended to various prominent figures of the nineteenth century. He painted Johann Andreas Schmeller and Peter Dominikus Ludwig, Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg-Ludigsburg.
