Maria Uhden lived a brief, concentrated life that intersected with the most turbulent currents of German art. Born in Coburg in 1892, she emerged as a painter and printmaker during a period of profound aesthetic upheaval. Her presence in the German Expressionist movement was marked by a quiet but firm participation in the avant-garde circles of her time. She shared her life with the painter Georg Schrimpf, finding herself within a community of creators who sought to redefine the visual language of a changing Europe.
Her trajectory was cut short in Munich, where she died in 1918.
