      Sir Augustus Wall Callcott, een vooraanstaande Engelse landschapsschilder, werd op 20 februari 1779 geboren in Kensington Gravel Pits, een dorp aan de westelijke rand van Londen. Later vond hij zijn weg naar de Royal Academy, waar hij als student zijn artistieke carrière begon als portretschilder onder de deskundige begeleiding van John Hoppner.
