A Life of Faith and Art
Désiré Carnel was a French priest and painter born in Bailleul, France. His life was deeply rooted in the ministry; he entered the grand seminary of Cambrai in 1842 and later served as a vicar in Dunkerque and Bourbourg. His religious duties included serving as the chaplain of the Notre Dame des Dunes communal college and later as the parish priest of Sequedin. In 1856, he moved to the Saint-André church in Lille, and by 1897, he was serving as a chaplain at the Lille military hospital.
