      Antonio López García – En el corazón del Realismo

      Antonio López García nació en Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, el 6 de enero de 1936, pocos meses antes del inicio de la Guerra Civil Española que estalló el 17 de julio con el levantamiento militar. La guerra terminó el 1 de abril de 1939, dando paso a una dictadura militar liderada por Francisco Franco que duraría treinta y siete años. Sin embargo, Antonio recuerda su infancia en el pueblo como feliz y pacífica. Comenzó su formación artística en Tomelloso con su tío, Antonio López Torres, pintor paisajista local, quien reconoció y nutrió su talento artístico desde temprana edad ofreciéndole sus primeros lecciones. En octubre de ese mismo año, su tío convenció a sus padres de dejarle viajar a Madrid para prepararse para el examen de ingreso en la Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Con este objetivo en mente, Antonio estudió dibujo después de esculturas; observando cuidadosamente los moldes en el Museo Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo, situado en el Casón del Buen Retiro, y asistiendo a las clases magistrales de la Escuela Profesional de Artes Aplicadas y Diseño. A los quince años, cuando aprobó el examen de ingreso en San Fernando, experimentó uno de los momentos más felices de su vida. Terminó sus estudios oficiales de Bellas Artes en 1955, ganando varios premios en las oposiciones escolares. Durante estos años desarrolló una amistad con María Moreno, también pintora, a quien casó en 1961. También hizo amigos con Francisco López Hernández, Joaquín Ramo, Lucio Muñoz y Enrique Gran. Desde este grupo nació el Nuevo Realismo español en Madrid. Antonio López García se hizo amigo de Jack Chambers, pintor canadiense que estudiaba en Madrid. Aunque Chambers no pertenecía al Nuevo Realismo español, sus obras reflejan elementos comunes con las del grupo madrileño.

      Influencias y Desarrollo Artístico

      Antes de la guerra civil española, Antonio López García había conocido el mundo artístico internacional a través de libros de biblioteca en San Fernando. Este encuentro fue fundamental para que descubriera artistas como Picasso y otros grandes maestros de la pintura occidental. Tras finalizar sus estudios universitarios en 1955, viajó a Italia con Francisco López Hernández gracias a una beca otorgada por el Ministerio de Educación Nacional. Allí estudió la pintura italiana del Renacimiento, especialmente Velázquez, quien fue un punto de referencia constante para él. Esta experiencia influyó profundamente en su obra, despertando su interés por las técnicas tradicionales y por la representación detallada de la realidad. En 1957 López García comenzó a experimentar con elementos surrealistas, aunque esta fase tuvo una duración limitada hasta alrededor de 1964. Durante este período desarrolló un estilo propio que combinaba influencias diversas como el cubismo y el impresionismo.
