This early immersion in Levantine culture provided a foundation of visual language—one rich with Islamic geometric motifs, arabesques, and calligraphic grace—that would later merge seamlessly with the avant-garde movements he encountered in the United States. After moving to America to pursue his academic journey, he earned a BFA from Louisiana State University in 1971 and an MFA from Yale University in 1973, a period that fundamentally reshaped his approach through encounters with contemporary masters.
Upon settling in New York, Nahas began to establish himself as a master of color, texture, and atmosphere.
