      Edmond Lechevallier Chevignard (né à Lyon en 1825 et mort à Paris en 1902) était un peintre, graveur et décorateur français dont l’œuvre témoigne d’une remarquable maîtrise technique et d’une sensibilité artistique profonde. Bien que son nom ne soit pas aussi célèbre qu'autres contemporains de la Belle Époque, ses peintures et dessins offrent une fenêtre fascinante sur les préoccupations esthétiques et intellectuelles de son temps.

      Élève de Michel Martin Drolling dont il fut l’ami proche, Lechevallier Chevignard partageait avec Olivier Merson une même passion pour la peinture classique et réaliste. Cette influence se reflète dans son style artistique caractéristique : une attention particulière aux détails anatomiques et à la lumière naturelle, conjuguée à une maîtrise exceptionnelle de la couleur et à une composition équilibrée.

      Sa carrière artistique débuta au Salon de Paris en 1849 où il exposa initialement des portraits et des peintures d’histoire. Il continua à présenter ses œuvres aux Salons jusqu'en 1901, devenant membre du jury en dessin à la troisième exposition internationale de blanc et noir en 1888.
