Following the outbreak of war, Deluc enlisted in the French army, initially serving as a nurse. He was later promoted to sergeant and subsequently to sub-lieutenant. His final artistic contributions consisted of sketches taken live in the trenches and during offensives. He fell during a reconnaissance near Souain-Perthes-lès-Hurlus.
