Major Works and Artistic Commissions
Nelson Rosenberg found significant footing during the Great Depression through the auspices of the Public Works of Art Project. This federal funding allowed him to engage in large-scale communal efforts, most notably at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C. There, he collaborated with students to produce two frescoes titled "Adolescent America" and "American Panorama" in 1934. (25.4 x 36.8 cm), remains part of the museum's permanent collection, having been transferred from the General Services Administration in 1974.
Other pieces of his output remain integrated into the architecture of the city. The frescoes Adolescent America and American Panorama are located within the cafeteria of Theodore Roosevelt High School. These works, which were created under the Public Works of Art Project, were restored and are currently on display for the school community.
