Descrição da Obra

One second is the time limitation of painting. Time can be seen through this limitation, and one second would appear differently. The great distinction between one second and one year sometime could be subtle as well. Many things could be changed in one year, or perhaps nothing happens. Zhao painted numerous lines by the second. Short and constrained, they exist in their way but appear to be trivial and meaningless. Two of these line paintings were dramatically blown up, which took a whole year for Zhao to finish them. Considering 31,536,000 seconds in a year, it may seem like a work in vain. However, for his own life of the year, no matter how much attention he had paid to this painting, it finally became a sporadic memory. We all have similar experiences: time flies, and the future remains uncertain, just like a sealed book. The juxtaposition of one second and one year is like a story with an untold beginning and ending. Thus, people can imagine any unknown happenings during this period. Things may be trivial, painful or depressive, but perhaps he is so happy that he doesn’t care about it.When One Second appears as a conceptual action, it raises a challenge to painting, and counters against slow temporality, controllability, and repeatability in the history of painting. In other words, One Second is the questioning to time or the span of life. However, more or less, there is a touch of heroism.

Emerging Talent: Xueyang Zhao – Bridging Tradition and Innovation

Xueyang Zhao, also known as Erica Zhao, is an American artist born in Washington, District of Columbia, in 1999, who embodies the spirit of contemporary creativity while honoring artistic heritage. Currently pursuing dual degrees in finance and art history with a language concentration in French through Tulane University’s Altman Program in International Studies and Studies, Zhao's journey began with a profound appreciation for visual expression from a young age—a passion that has steadily cultivated into a distinctive artistic voice. Early Life and Artistic Exploration Zhao’s fascination with art wasn’t merely academic; it was deeply ingrained within her formative years. Recognizing her innate talent, she diligently honed her skills across various mediums – painting, drawing, and photography – experimenting with techniques and styles to discover what resonated most authentically with her artistic sensibilities. This dedication resulted in a captivating blend of influences, shaping her unique approach to portraying the world around her. A Style Defined by Bold Color and Natural Imagery Zhao’s artwork distinguishes itself through vibrant hues and meticulous detail, reflecting an aesthetic rooted in both classical traditions and modern innovation. Recurring motifs include peaches—a symbol laden with cultural significance representing longevity and prosperity—and jade constellations—inspired by Chinese mythology—demonstrating Zhao's engagement with Eastern artistic symbolism alongside Western influences. Her signature piece, “Peaches,” exemplifies this stylistic fusion; it’s an oil painting rendered in an impressionistic style that captures the essence of natural beauty through textured brushstrokes and emotive color palettes. International Recognition and Exhibitions Zhao’s talent has garnered considerable acclaim on a global scale. Notably, her artwork was showcased at prestigious institutions such as the Song Art Museum in Beijing, China, cementing her position within the international art community. The installation “Jade Constellations” further solidified her reputation for conceptual artistry—a striking visual representation of cosmological beliefs and artistic vision. Her works have been included in prominent collections like the Musée d’art et d’histoire (France) collection and the Fondation Antonio de Nebrija (Madrid, Spain), highlighting her contribution to diverse cultural landscapes. Looking Ahead: Zhao's Artistic Legacy Zhao’s artistic trajectory is marked by a commitment to blending disciplines—finance and art history—providing her with invaluable perspectives on both economic realities and aesthetic considerations. Influenced by movements like Impressionism and Pop Art, she continues to push boundaries while honoring established traditions. Xueyang Zhao represents not only an individual artist but also a symbol of the evolving intersection between creativity and intellectual rigor – a testament to the enduring power of artistic expression in shaping our understanding of the world.
