The Artistic Practice of Hugo Markl
Hugo Markl is an American artist and curator who lives in New York City. Born in Pasadena, California, he pursued his studies in Visual communication at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where he earned an M.A. in fine arts. His practice spans a broad range of media, including sculpture, photography, video, drawing, printmaking, installation art, and performance.
Markl's work often involves the use of various materials, such as wood, metal, and fabric, to create immersive environments. His IQ drawing series combines text and imagery, such as overlaying the word "ROCK" on a nude figure or the IKEA logo with a reproduction of Horkheimer and Adorno's Dialectic of Enlightenment.
