The Life and Travels of Richard Hall
Born in Pori, Finland, Richard Hall was the son of British businessman William R. Hall Tredennick and Swiss Alexandrine Cornetz. His family lived in Helsinki before moving to London, and later, at the age of fifteen, they relocated to Stockholm. It was in Stockholm that Hall entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1881. During his studies, he was under the instruction of Georg von Rosen, August Malmström, Josef Wilhelm Wallander, and Mårten Eskil Winge, and he also took private lessons from Edvard Perséus. Upon his graduation, he was awarded the H. M. The King's Medal for winning an art competition held by the Royal Academy.
Hall's career took him across several continents. After graduating, he moved to Paris, where he shared a studio with Richard Bergh and studied under Jean-Paul Laurens, Raphaël Collin, and Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant. In 1902, he was invited to New York City by the American businessman William Kissam Vanderbilt. Later, in 1915, Hall emigrated to Argentina, living in Mar del Plata and eventually passing away in Buenos Aires.
