      Life and Artistic Beginnings

Born in Antwerp, Belgium, André-Victor Lynen was the son of Alfred Lynen and Jeanne Pecher. By 1916, he joined the "peintres du front" (painters of the front) as an observer, tasked with documenting the ravaged landscapes of Flanders through painting, drawing, and pen. Following the war, his life took him through France, including Versailles, Brittany, the Landes, and the Côte d'Azur, before he returned to Belgium to reside in La Hulpe and Brussels.
