Ob Vasiliju Kandinskim je bil soustanovitelj uredniške skupine Der Blaue Reiter, ki je svojo prvo razstavo odprla v Münchnu 18. decembra 1911. Blaue Reiter je nastal iz Novega münchenskega združenja umetnikov, katerega član je bil Marc kratek čas.
