Avner Ben-Gal was an Israeli international painter and artist who worked primarily from Tel Aviv, Israel. His paintings often depict intense and sometimes neglected locations, such as smoky interiors, prisons, and agricultural fields, where theatrical scenes unfold. Within these settings, Ben-Gal presents figures that are bare, hardened, ghostly, and rough-hewn, often characterized as low life. The raw nature of his painting technique works in tandem with his tough and ambiguous subject matter to create a unique sense of intensity.

Throughout his career, Ben-Gal was represented by various galleries, including Sadie Coles HQ in London, Bortolami in New York, CFA Gallery in Berlin, and Tempo Rubato in Tel Aviv. His work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Basel, Switzerland, and the Aspen Art Museum in Colorado, United States.
