Winter's career is marked by significant teaching roles, including a tenure at Southern Methodist University's Meadows School of The Arts and a decade teaching at the Dallas Museum of Fine Art. Style and Subject Matter
As a painter, Winter explores the balance between illusion and abstraction. His subject matter has evolved through different environments, ranging from landscape paintings of rural Texas to realist depictions of New York City. His time spent in New Mexico and Iceland influenced a simplification of his painted edges and the division of canvas space. His technique is characterized by painterly brushwork and an emphasis on luminosity.
In recent years, his work has reflected the architecture and ongoing construction of New York. Beyond his own practice, Winter served as a consultant to President George W. Bush regarding the former president's painting practice. He currently shows his work at Tara Downs Gallery in New York, New York.
