Charles Edenshaw, known as Tahayren within his Haida community, stands as a pivotal figure in the history of Northwest Coast art. Edenshaw’s lineage was steeped in prestige; his father, K'łajangk'una, belonged to the Raven moiety’s Nikwən qiwe lineage, while his mother, Qawkúna, hailed from the Eagle moiety’s Sdəłdás lineage—a matrilineal connection that would profoundly shape his artistic path and ultimately lead him to chieftainship.
