He often worked in partnership with his wife, Fredrika, as the two collaborated on commissions that demanded both technical skill and a keen understanding of social portraiture.
His reputation in the city was largely defined by his relationship with Peter Marié. Through this connection, Weidner became a preferred hand for capturing the likenesses of the era's social elite. He produced more than 100 portraits of young New York City débutantes for Marié, contributing to a significant body of work that documented the faces of the Gilded Age.
