The Multidisciplinary Practice of Damian Moppett
Damian Moppett is an artist whose creative practice spans a diverse range of media, including sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, and video. His approach often involves using one medium as a starting point for another, frequently engaging in a transfer process between different forms. His work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, such as those at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver and Yvon Lambert in Paris. His pieces have been included in various group exhibitions across locations like Edinburgh, Toronto, New York, and Rotterdam.
Moppett's work often utilizes photography as a foundational element. After a two-year break around 2017, he returned to his practice by using photography as a source for paintings, selecting images from his own photographs and those of others, such as Lee Friedlander. His work also extends into large-scale public sculpture, such as Untitled Abstract Drawing in Space, which is composed of stainless steel, aluminum plate, copper pipe, and enamel.
