Notable Landscape Paintings and Collections
The landscape paintings of Georg Michael Zimmermann capture the quiet strength of the natural world, often focusing on the intersection of terrain and human engineering. One such work, titled The Höllental Railway near the Ravenna Bridge, offers a glimpse into the scenery of the era. In German, this piece is known as Die Höllentalbahn bei der Ravennabrücke. It was painted in 1902, a time when the movement of trains through rugged valleys became a defining feature of the changing landscape.
This specific work resides within the Augustiner Museum collection, where it is cataloged under the museum number M 87/015. The painting reflects a keen interest in the way iron and stone interact with the surrounding environment.
