Robert Ronald McIan was a Scottish actor and painter who gained recognition for his romanticised depictions of Scottish clansmen, their battles, and domestic life. Before dedicating himself to painting, he established a career on the stage, performing with the joint company of the Theatres Royal in Bristol and Bath before moving to London.
