Sigismund III Vasa was not a visual artist, but rather the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1587 to 1632, and also served as the King of Sweden from 1592 to 1599. Born at Gripsholm Castle, he was the son of King John III of Sweden and Catherine Jagiellon. He was a multilingual ruler, proficient in Polish, Swedish, German, Italian, and Latin.
